UCIS Service Provider Handbook

Please use this handbook as a resource, whether you are exploring opportunities at UCIS or are already working with us.  This handbook is designed for direct service providers, including sign language interpreters and speech-to-text providers (like CART).  It will outline expectations and provide important information about working at UConn.

UCIS is located on the main campus in Storrs, CT, but we also support the following Regional Campuses and Professional Schools:

PARKING

At the main campus in Storrs, service providers are encouraged to park in one of the two parking garages:

Remember to submit receipts with your invoice for reimbursement.

INTERPRETING OFFICE & OTHER FACILITIES

Located in the Center for Students with Disabilities (Wilbur Cross, 2nd floor), the UCIS interpreting office is open for all service providers to access. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.  Service providers can store their belongings, eat their lunch, prep for future assignments, debrief, review resources, and meet with colleagues.

Please note: while the office is located within the CSD suite and is monitored by professional staff during business hours, it is not locked. The interpreting office is also in a reduced-distraction area of the office suite to provide disability-related accommodations for testing. For this reason, please be mindful of noise levels.

UConn offers many public spaces for food options and collaborative meeting spaces during down-time. Cafes are situated around the campus, including:

MY UCONN APP

Professionals working with UCIS are encouraged to download the "My UConn App" onto their smartphone or device (available in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store). This app acts as a resource for campus information such as: building locations, campus alerts, etc.  When navigating the campus, please refer to the map function in this app.  It can provide you with walking directions anywhere on campus!

EMERGENCY ALERTS & CAMPUS CLOSURES

UConnAlert is the University’s official emergency notification and alerting system. In the event of an emergency that poses an immediate threat to one of our campus communities, the UConnAlert system will be activated. Components of the UConnAlert system may also be utilized to notify the UConn community of impacts to business operations, including weather closings and significant class schedule alterations. This website, alert.uconn.edu, is the definitive source of emergency information from the University of Connecticut and will always provide the current operating status for each campus, excluding UConn Health.

Local media outlets will also report on campus closures, but it is best to check directly with UConn or UCIS about the status of your assignments.
